Spanning four locations in the Walla Walla valley, including two correctional sites, Walla Walla Community College’s welding program is preparing students to enter into high-paying in-demand jobs. The program offers state-of-the-art welding facilities complemented by certified and inspired faculty, leading to one-year certificates in welding and aluminum welding and a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in welding technology.
Center of Excellence Executive Director Jason Petrait toured Walla Walla’s largest welding lab, hearing from instructors and staff about the
opportunities in industry. They shared that students get hired both locally and west of the mountains, that they expect more fabrication work to come to the Walla Walla valley and that new equipment is helping to meet the expectations of industry.
Training includes oxyacetylene cutting and welding, brazing, soldering, blueprints, testing, quality control, metallurgy and safe work practices. Certifications are conducted according to American Welding Society and Washington Association of Building Officials standards.
