Today marks Veterans Day, an opportunity to honor the men and women who have served our country, past and present.
Recognized in 1938 as a legal holiday, Veterans Day was originally named Armistice Day, commemorating the signing of the agreement that ended World War I.
Communities across Washington State are hosting events today to honor veterans. The Museum of Flight’s Veterans Day Celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. in the side gallery and will honor all men and women who’ve served past and present.
The Keynote Address will be given by retired U.S. Navy Capt. Bill Woodman, who served from 1968-1998, eventually commanded two submarines: the USS James Monroe and the USS Alabama. Bill is a long-time Museum volunteer and, since 2014, volunteers as a Command Pilot for Angel Flight West.
Friday’s event kicks off with the Boeing Concert Band at 11 a.m., remarks from Bill and others at noon and a screening of Into Flight Once More at 2 p.m.
Admission is free for all veterans and active-duty military.
