Set for May 30th at Felts Field Airport in Spokane, the inaugural Northwest Aviation Maintenance Competition will bring together teams of students from across the state to compete using their real-world airframe and powerplant skills.
The event kicks off with a welcome dinner on Friday, May 29th in the hangar. Competitors can get a preview of the competition projects, ask last-minute questions and learn more about the host city of Spokane.
Saturday sees the competition start bright and early, with the first projects starting at 9:30 a.m. and running through noon, with five projects of 20 minutes each.
After a sponsored lunch, teams will tackle three more projects in the afternoon. After that, scores are tallied and awards and prizes are handed out, with the day set to close by 5:00 p.m.
Teams will rotate through hands-on projects that will include brake lining and pad replacement, n-number masking, safety wire, CFR knowledge, weight and balance, electrical troubleshooting, rigid tubing and magneto timing. Project rubrics will be shared in advance, and the judges from Alaska Airlines are confirmed.
Competitors will want to bring their own PPE, wrench and socket set, digital multimeter, screwdrivers, safety wire pliers, and an AOG hand tool kit.
The Center of Excellence for Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing is proud sponsor of the event, along with Alaska-Horizon Airlines, Snap-On Tools and PB Air.
