The Electric Propulsion Innovation Challenge (EPIC) STEM Challenge is a low-cost, standards-based project that helps bring aerospace alive for kids! Designed for grades 6-12, EPIC challenges young people to design, build and fly a small electric airplane that will carry out a specific task. Each year the game changes but the premise stays the same.
On Friday, June 28th EPIC will host their first workshop for K-12 instructors, including 8 STEM clock hours, materials and supplies to build your own plane. During the full-day workshop, participants learn more about EPIC as they discuss how to best teach it to youth as well as designing, building and flying their own airplanes. Plus, attendees will get the opportunity to be one of the first to play this year’s game!
This tethered flight project helps students reinforce key concepts in physics, flight, science and math. EPIC also allows kids to see aerospace as a potential career pathway and understand how engineers combine STEM practices to design, build and test a successful airplane.
Workshop registration includes: breakfast, lunch, printed materials, all supplies needed to design build one airplane and 8 STEM clock hours (if applicable).
