FAA Announces it will award nearly $300M for Sustainable Aviation Fuel Projects

Are you interested in making aviation greener? The Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) announced today that will award nearly $300 million to
help achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Made possible by the
Inflation Reduction Act
of 2022, the Fueling Aviation’s Sustainable Transition (FAST) grant program
will make grants available to eligible entities for projects that support
sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), to be termed FASTSAF, and low-emission
aviation technologies to be termed FAST-Tech.

FAST-SAF, will provide $244.5 million in grants to support the build out of
infrastructure projects related to SAF production, transportation, blending,
and storage. While the low-emission technology portion of the program will
provide $46.5 million in grants to develop and demonstrate new aviation
technologies to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Eligible
entities include airports, air carriers, universities, aviation and
aerospace companies, state and local governments and nonprofit
organizations.

We have a need for speed in this race we have more resources than ever
before to accelerate this critical work, said FAA Assistant Administrator
for Policy, International Affairs and Environment, Laurence Wildgoose in a
news release. We look forward to receiving applications that can help accelerate the
use of high-integrity SAF and the development of powerful low-emission
aviation technologies.

FAA’s target for the first round of grant awards is set for mid-2024.
