Throughout the year, the Center of Excellence is sharing reports on the 10 most important aerospace and advanced manufacturing occupations, giving students insight into careers, wages and education.
Recognizing that students need clear, up-to-date information on jobs and education, the Center of Excellence is pleased to share occupation reports on the most critical roles in aerospace and advanced manufacturing, including in-depth breakdowns for engineers, welders, mechanics and more. The reports provide insight into what to expect on the job, what the job market looks like, including wages and job openings and links to resources ranging from videos, apprenticeship opportunities and information on community college programs.
The reports are designed for students, helping them make better-informed decisions on next steps in education and careers. Thinking of changing careers? These guides are where students and workers can learn about career options and understand how to update the skills needed for industry. “It’s a way to get a quick glance at the information that’s important when thinking about careers, as well as linking to more details, videos and college programs,” says the Center of Excellence’s Kelsey Sanderson.
The reports use data from Chmura, a respected source of industry information, to gather current wages from entry-level to experienced roles. The reports pair that information with the current number of job openings to provide an in-depth sense of the demand for the job, the demands of the job and how to advance in aerospace and advanced manufacturing careers.
Often, occupation guides are national—jobs in Texas or Florida aren’t helpful—or out-of-date, providing years-old wage data. Current and local information matters in career planning, and these reports provide the details needed to make informed decisions about where and how to access training to enter good jobs in aerospace and advanced manufacturing. Washington’s community and technical colleges, along with leading aerospace apprenticeships, provide the training needed to begin good careers in this growing industry.
