At the start of 2022, Center of Excellence staff was kicking around the best ways to understand the state of the manufacturing and aerospace industries in Washington and instead of turning to expensive databases or third-party write-ups, the staff decided to review what people look at: Indeed.
Over the past 8 months, we have manually tracked Indeed job postings for Washington State, checking the numbers regularly for manufacturing and aerospace postings. Our takeaways:
- Both aerospace and manufacturing industries have held steady across 2022, with somewhere around 7500 open manufacturing jobs and 1400 aerospace jobs posted at any one time.
- Consistency in industry needs throughout the year shows that broader macroeconomic factors have not changed the hiring environment.
- Aerospace and manufacturing still need people. The ends of quarters and the school year haven’t changed the hiring environment.
