Computer-Aided Drafting/Technical Design
Description This program is designed to provide entry-level skills for students seeking employment in the drafting profession as an architectural, structural, civil, or mechanical drafter. Students receive substantial training in drafting, design, and industrial practices building foundation with manual (board) techniques and CADD (Computer Aided Drafting) techniques. Application of building codes, ANSI, ISO, and AIA standards is presented, with emphasis on standards used in commercial building design and aerospace manufacturing.   Students become familiar with document control procedures, and materials science and processes. Related instruction in mathematics, oral and written communications, human relations/business leadership, employment skills, and basic computer, word processing, and spreadsheet applications are also provided. Ample time is devoted to hands-on instruction throughout the program.
Skill Sets
Graduates of the Drafting program will be able to do the following:
  • Mechanical Drafting: Create detail and assembly drawings including parts list using AutoCAD.
  • Architectural Drafting & Design: Produce a complete set of residential plans including site-plan, perspectives and elevations using Autodesk Revit.
  • Computer Aided Drafting (CAD): Create 2 dimensional layouts from 3-dimenional models.
  • Civil Design: Create a site plan including legal description and topography.
  • Technical Writing: Create documentation that fully describes the form fit and function of a given assembly.
  • 3D Solid Modeling: Create 3 dimensional models and flat patterns of sheet metal parts using AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Structural Detailing: Create a full set of commercial plans with foundation, roof drainage, and wall details.
