Description

The Production Technician performs a variety of duties and multiple uses of different skill sets in the production of high risk parts and tooling. Some skills include vacuum integrity, prepreg installation, infusion or wet lay composite fabrication and curing. Aerospace tool finishing and custom hardware fabrication and installation, as well as sealing and release applications are some additional daily tasks.

Techs are required to follow directions carefully, have basic mechanical knowledge, manual dexterity, good eyesight and the ability to perform repetitive tasks.

The Production Technician has three levels of competency to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion:

  • Capable to Expert, based on Certifications within the Cell
  • Capable to Expert, based on Certifications within the Cell
  • Proficient with JI Certifications in one or more of the following; Metrology, Welding, or NC Programming

Certifications may be Project or Customer specific. Level I – III Techs may have certifications in P-C-P, Duratec, Forklift, or Crane.

The following essential job functions are performed as a Production Technician:

  • Attention to detail and quality is required
  • Reads and understands blue prints, isometric drawings and work orders
  • Receives and carries out directions from designated Supervisors and Production Leads
  • Must understand and comply with Safety and 5S,
  • Must understand and comply with AS9100 and Nadcap Practices and Procedures as applicable
  • Must be able to read, understand and execute Work Orders to exacting specifications
  • Identifies and obtains equipment, tools and materials needed to properly perform job function
  • Set up scaffolding and safety barriers under direction
  • Properly executes Hazardous Material Disposal activities
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly, FOD free condition
  • Knowledge and use of common hand tools
  • Performs on the job training for Project Certifications, AS9100, NADCAP training and other training as required
  • Works in other Cells to support Production as required, ie; Mill, Mold/Fab or Assembly Cells
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Package and crate parts for shipment, includes shrink wrapping
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting and completing multiple deadlines. The incumbent shall; at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Being at work on time and maintaining good attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job

QUALIFICATIONS

MUST BE U.S. CITIZEN OR LEGAL PERMANENT RESIDENT FOR THIS POSITION. Due to our ITAR and EAR regulations, applicants must be a US Citizen or of Legal Permanent Resident Status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b (a) (3).

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or GED required, college level or trade school education preferred. One or more years of experience in related field may be substituted for education. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Experience in aircraft frame assembly/maintenance and/or painting would be a plus.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

Job duties may include one or more of the following:

  • Ability to adapt and learn Customer/Project specific Certifications to perform work in the Cell
  • Cuts and lays composite fabric and flow media to design specifications under supervision
  • Vacuum bagging in order to prepare parts for drop tests, de-bulking fabric and infusion
  • Assists with the mixing, application, and infusion of resins/catalysts
  • Performs tabbing operations to work order specifications
  • Performs bonding of honey comb core
  • Welding – Janicki Certification, FCAW, GMAW, S-FCAW, INVAR, TIG, MIG, Plasma cutting, Oxy-Acetylene cutting (as a separate Certification)
  • Metrology, part leveling, fixturing, equipment handling, laser tracker, radar and targeting as well as Spatial
  • Analyzer Operation (as a separate Certification)
  • Advanced Assembly Procedures, will include detailed substructure and hardware installation
  • Janicki Certified, Overhead Crane, Forklift and Manlift Operation (as separate Certifications)
  • Operation of Pneumatic and Power tools, drills, grinders, saws, impact drivers, sanders, scissors sharpener and other tools including Calibrated Digital scales and measuring devices
  • Perform aerospace tool finishing utilizing sanding, grinding of exacting tolerances on flat surfaces and compound curves as well as doing detailed patch/repairs on the same
  • Knowledge of epoxy resin and catalyst used in repairs and surface finishing
  • Preparation and spray application of Duratec and hybrid Duratec (as separate Certification)
  • Spray application of Foam (as separate Certification)
  • Prep and Application of Chop, Initial Putty Application, Vacuum Integrity Spray (as separate Certifications)
  • Familiar with the use/cleaning of shop spray guns and equipment
  • Performs prescribed maintenance on machines and facilities as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to sit, stand, or crouch down for extended periods. Must be able to climb ladders and work platforms. Exposed to noise, dust, dirt, and paint fumes. Must be able to work under hot and cold conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE), safety glasses and respirator will be required. Must be comfortable working within confined spaces and at various heights
