SUMMARY

The Product Engineer works with a fast paced, high energy Operations team that supports product realization of high-precision, highly engineering products within the Aerospace industry. Under the general direction of the Value Stream Supervisor/Manager, the Product Engineer performs engineering activities related to the quotation and customer build to print processes, supporting quick and accurate quotation along with continued drive to improve these processes. This position works with customer sales and engineering contacts to provide design for manufacturability assistance and to communicate/request information necessary to complete “build-to package” for CIT’s production.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Engineer I

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Mechanical Eng., Electrical Eng., Industrial Eng., etc.) or high school diploma with equivalent experience in related field.
  • 0-2 years experience 

Engineer II

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Mechanical Eng., Industrial Eng., Automation Tech., Physics, etc.) or high school diploma with equivalent experience in related field.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering management, Systems Engineering or MBA preferred.
  • 2-8 years experience

 Engineer III

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Mechanical Eng., Industrial Eng., Automation Tech., Physics, etc.) or high school diploma with equivalent experience in related field.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering management, Systems Engineering or MBA preferred.
  • 9+  years experience

JOB SKILLS

  • Firm understanding of specific manufacturing principles/processes (Metal Fabrication, Machining, Finishing, Electrical Assembly, Wire/Harness Assembly, Electrical Integration, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Project management skills and experience preferred.
  • Able to lead, participate in, collaborate, and advise cross functional project teams.
  • Able to leverage formal problem-solving training tools such (8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma) preferred.
  • Manufacturing experience in a custom make to order environment
  • Ability to explain complex operations and methods clearly and concisely to other employees, suppliers, and customers
  • Cooperative and treats all personnel with respect.
  • Accepts responsibility for own actions and is accountable for project deliverables and goals.
  • Willingly accepts feedback from others.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, SAP preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Interprets customer drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards to develop quotes for customer Bill of Material’s as well as labor
  • Determines material cost and accurate lead times for quoted assemblies utilizing MRP system, Sourcing coordination with Purchasing, and personal expertise
  • Develops labor estimates for assemblies utilizing labor templates, personal expertise, and production team collaboration
  • Performs complete technical assessment for each project quoted, determining tooling requirements and cost, testing requirements and adapters required, level of manufacturing data required (e.g. Manufacturing instructions, jigs, fixtures) and determines if further clarification and/or documents are required from the customer
  • Provides complete technical assessment, including cost estimate spreadsheet to Sales for completion of Carlisle IT quotation.  Must be able to clearly convey all assumptions, lead times, and costs necessary for sales to complete quotation
  • Communicates design concerns, drawing errors, and manufacturability enhancements to customer contacts, as necessary.  Must be able to fully understand Carlisle IT’s production capabilities and data requirements and must be able to communicate professionally with customer personnel
  • Provides support to Carlisle IT Manufacturing Engineers once an order is received
  • Completes internally generated change orders, effecting changes to Production Bill of Materials and Routings.  Works closely with Change Control to ensure changes are completed efficiently and accurately
  • Assesses the cost impact of customer changes to develop a cost estimate for sales
  • Provides Sales with technical support involving industry standards, military specifications, Carlisle IT production capabilities, and material requirements
  • Works with Carlisle IT New Product Development department when necessary, to aid Carlisle IT and customer in developing a manufacturable solution
  • Provides support to production in resolving engineering-related issues
  • Contributes to team effort in a collaborative and supportive manner.
  • Maintains clean, organized work environment and adheres to all safety standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Adheres to all factory safety procedures and guidelines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Work is performed in a normal office environment with minimal physical risks involved.  The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.
